Dundee Cottages

The Chatham County/City of Savannah Land Bank Authority, Inc. has expanded its mission to include housing for persons experiencing homelessness. The Land Bank partnered with the City of Savannah, CHSA Development, Inc, a nonprofit developer, and the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless in a new project that will provide homes for people experiencing homelessness. Currently under construction, there will be 38 tiny homes, a caretaker cottage, and a residence services center.

Dundee Cottages is a true housing-first initiative, prioritizing permanent housing with low barriers. It is specifically designed for families and individuals exiting homelessness in the Chatham County/Savannah area and will provide outflow for residents who are unable to leave emergency shelters due to no affordable housing opportunities.

The Chatham/Savannah Land Bank Authority is providing a lease for the land, the City of Savannah is providing the infrastructure, CHSA Development is handling the construction of the new homes, and the Homeless Authority will purchase the improvements and provide services to the residents while continuing to lease the property from the Land Bank Authority. This is a great example of how Land Banks can partner with other agencies and provide housing to an underserved market.
